Facilities and Equipment

In addition to office space, MVS leases approximately 1,000 square feet of laboratory space. This lab space includes laboratory benchtops, cabinetry, chemical fume hoods, laboratory furniture, explosion proof refrigerator and freezer, and solvent storage cabinets.

The laboratory is a well-equipped and modern laboratory facility and includes balances (analytical, toploading and triple-beam), pH meters, mechanical and magnetic stirrers, hotplates, oven, vacuum oven, furnace, vacuum pump, solvent pumps, vortexer, constant temperature bath, shaker, centrifuge (x1000g, constant temperature), stirred ultrafiltration cells, membrane filtration equipment, compressed air, nitrogen and argon.

Laboratory glassware and equipment includes glassware for biochemical, environmental and analytical work (volumetric flasks, pipettes, pipettors, scintillation vials, centrifuge tubes, etc.), glassware for extractions, distillations and synthetic chemistry (3-neck and 1-neck round bottom reaction flasks, reflux condensers, reaction kettles, separatory funnels, etc.), general laboratory glassware (flasks, beakers, drying tubes, filtration flasks and funnels) and chromatography equipment (peristaltic pumps, chromatography columns, thin layer chromatography, TLC).

Analytical instrumentation includes a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer (Ultraviolet-Visible, 200-1000nm) with optically matched quartz UV cells, an ICP-AES Spectrometer (Inductively Coupled Plasma- Atomic Emission Spectroscopy, for metals and elemental analyses), an Aqua Analyzer (water analysis) and a Hach DR/2000 Spectrophotometer.

The laboratory is well supplied with most of the common organic solvents, chemicals, dyes, chemical and biological reagents as well as deionized water (18 megaohm).

The laboratory is well suited for R&D and product development in the chemical, environmental, materials and life sciences.

President & Founder

Dr. Louis M. Scarmoutzos is President and Founder of MVS Solutions. Dr. Scarmoutzos is a Ph.D. Scientist educated at Boston College, The Pennsylvania State University and Harvard University. He has over thirteen years of industrial experience ranging from Bench-Top Scientist to Vice President of Research and Development to Founder and Managing Partner of MVS Solutions, Inc. Dr. Scarmoutzos received his Ph.D. summa cum laude in Chemistry and has worked extensively in the Chemical, Biotech, Separations, Environmental, and Natural Products Industries.

Dr. Scarmoutzos has hands-on experience in developing new and proprietary products and processes, technology transfer, joint technology ventures, strategic planning and in developing intellectual property portfolios. Dr. Scarmoutzos is currently on the Scientific Advisory Board of SolmeteX, Inc., an environmental remediation company and is on the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Dietary Supplement Quality Initiative. He is a co-author of numerous peer-reviewed technical articles and holds several issued and pending U.S. and international patents.
